Memorial-Day-Remembrance-02

“Memorial Day Remembrance” was the Theme for the Interactive Music Wellness Keynote presentation during the “Happy Seniors Social Group” at Bethany United Methodist Church.

The presentation began with a description of my 25 year Navy Journey and how music was always my calling while serving our country. An overview of Music Therapy profession including the various populations music therapists serve to reach non-musical outcomes.

We started with a guided deep breathing activity to an instrumental “God Bless America” by Jim Brickman. Then sound shape drums with Memorial Day History and Facts were written on “post it notes” … during a historical review of Memorial Day (originally called Decoration Day), the post it notes were affixed to the white board. We then sang several Patriotic Songs including “Dixie, When Johnnie Comes Marching Home, America the Beautiful, God Bless America and My Country Tis of Thee.”

We closed with giving thanks devotion and taking a moment of silence to honor our service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country. Reflective comments included: “wonderful storytelling, so moving, patriotic, spectacular, reflective.” Happy Memorial Day! Music For Wellness #‎luvservingwithmusic
