Remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr January 18 2016

In honor and remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, the Innovative Senior Champions were inspired to a moving and powerful MLK Music Therapy session. The session began with tapping rhythm sticks to the song “We Shall Overcome” and inserting new verses: “Walking Hand in Hand in Peace, We Shall Love Each Other, Black and White Together,”

We transitioned our rhythm sticks movements into tapping “hammers” while singing “If I Were a Hammer.” The creative Senior Champions moved their rhythm sticks as shovels, especially during this cold January weather. To enhance problem solving skills and team work, the Senior Champions created a symbol with rhythm sticks on the floor … they chose “MLK.”

Then we sang several songs including “Let there be Peace Earth and Amazing Grace” and ended the session by playing “America the Beautiful” on tone chimes. Thank you Marianne Albene for the great songs suggestions
