This Health Beat Video is LIVE from THE LONGEST DAY event on Sunday JUNE 21, 2015 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1051 Kempsville Rd, Norfolk, Virginia. At sunrise (6AM) we welcomed the SUN with SCRIPTURE, SOUND, and SILENCE with MUSIC and RHYTHM.
The Longest Day is a team event to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association®. Held annually on the summer solstice, the duration of this sunrise-to-sunset event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers. Teams are encouraged to create their own experience as they fundraise and participate in an activity they love to honor someone facing the disease.
During this event we began outside to welcome the sun and connect with nature. After we set an intention in honor of someone affected by Alzheimer’s Disease, we chanted “Morning Sun” chant. We blessed the day, morning birds, morning rain, and morning breeze and each other.
We moved inside for a rhythmic naming experience with drums …. each person was invited to introduce themselves, state the name of their person affected with Alzheimer’s and a rhythm in their memory.
We then transitioned into playing tone chimes to allow for silence, sound and reverence. We then closed the event with the song “Morning Has Broken” with the tone chimes.
This sacred and special event allowed emotions to be express including joy, happiness, tears and community building. Reflective comments from the group included: “Invigorating, Empowered, Calming, Healing, Awesome, Beautiful, and Wonderful.

Beginning with the enactment of Public Law 106-50 in 1998, the nation began to understand the earned benefit of honorable military service and Veterans continuing to serve their nation through entrepreneurship and selling goods and services to the Federal government. Unfortunately the Federal government continues to fall short of the acquisition goals mandated by Congress. VETS provided a platform for all stakeholders to get closer to these goals and support our Veteran small businesses.
