0

Thank you Dr. Jim Kosnik and Dr. Douglas T. Owens from Old Dominion University Department of Music for inviting me to be a guest lecture for their Musician’s Health Course. The students, guests and faculty became invigorated, energized and peaceful from experiencing the healthRHYTHMS interactive Group Empowerment Drumming protocol.

Group Empowerment Drumming protocol lecture at Old Dominion University Department of Music

Our session began by showing and discussing various uses of a Lemon, including how a lemon can enrich our health through music. This metaphor was utilized to provide an Innovative wellness benefit of music including the HeatlhRHTYHMS evidenced base research. We conducted a wellness exercise, Lemon Shaker pass, Group Drumming including “what does stress sound like on an instrument?”
We discussed various strategies for decreasing stress including deep breathing, asking for help and getting in motion. We closed with a wellness exercise and “one word” closing comment. Responses included: “calm, peaceful, intrigued, insightful, grounded, relaxed, invigorated, rejuvenated, and happy.”

It is an honor and blessing to share the power of music with musicians, professors and students to transform lives, their health and wellness.
