The pattern uses the 1, 4, 5 chords. This is done using the left hand to do the chord change and the right hand to play a melody.

To play the twelve bars, you will need to start by learning three chords, namely; F major, G major and C major. Major simply means bright or happy music. Starting with the F major, you will need to move your fingers in a triangular motion. You will also be using the white keys F, C and A.

For C major, one should find the white key C. This can be found at the left of any sets of two black keys. It consists of C G and E and should be played either to the right or left using the alternating finger. G major on the other hand consists of the three white keys which are G B and D.

To learn this well one should get familiar with the minor and major scale. One should begin with basic, slow melodies and progression. By utilizing the notes in the scale over the twelve bar progression, one can hear the blues.
