Memories of Honor Flight Historic Triangle Virginia #12 by Becky Watson, MBA, MT-BC with Mr. Charles Arado
Honor Flight Historic Triangle Virginia (HFHTVA) is a Williamsburg-based non-profit organization established in October 2008 with one goal: to take every World War II and terminally ill veteran in the Hampton Roads and Richmond areas that is able and has not visited the World War II Memorial built in their honor on a charter bus day trip to Washington, DC. In addition to the WWII Memorial, other scheduled stops include Arlington National Cemetery, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the National Museum of the Marine Corps (Quantico), and others sites as time allows. Each veteran is accompanied by a trained volunteer guardian, who will assist them for the entire day. http://www.honorflighthtva.org/
Veterans and Guardians meet at 0445 to load the buses, heading to Williamsburg to meet other veterans at Colonial Heritage Community Foundation.
I’m so honored to be a guardian for a wonderful Korean War veteran Mr. Charles Arado. It Is 0445 … we have started our honor flight mission to Washington DC. Motorcycle escort is leading us to our first stop to Williamsburg.
We enjoyed coffee break and a beautiful “kick off” ceremony at Colonial Heritage Community Ballroom in Williamsburg, VA. The opening ceremony included Posting Colors by the Air Force Honor Guard, a Ceremonial Band and opening remarks by Major General, Rex A. Spitler, Deputy Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Eustis, Virginia. Hundreds of military supporters, JROTC students, veterans, motorcycle escorts and etc thanked the WWII and Korean War veterans for their service and sent us off to Washington DC.
Specially labeled Water Bottle! We drank plenty of water on this gorgeous Autumn Day.
Honor flight mission made a rest stop at Dale City, VA. We were welcomed and greeted by over 50 motorcycles and vets! Met other Korean War veterans and friends on the other buses from Richmond.

We observed the Changing of the Guard and Solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
Final stop on honor flight at Quantico at Marine Corps Museum. What a wonderful experience hearing the stories and sharing the day with such an outstanding Korean War veteran. Thanks Charles Arado for opportunity for allowing me to be your guardian today. I’m truly honored! #luvhonorflight
We found the Musician’s Corner of the US Marine Corps Museum!
What a great experience and opportunity to share my patriotism, honor and respect for veterans of the WWI and Korean Wars. We shared many Sea Stories and memories of our Navy Heritage together.
Thank you Charles for sharing your Navy Heritage and many stories with me … what a such Memorable Day that I will cherish forever! Becky Watson
