This week’s Music Therapy sessions theme for older adults and their care partners living with dementia included a “Sentimental Journey” stroll down memory lane. We began by tapping rhythm sticks, moving and grooving to lively songs including: “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and “Button Up Your Overcoat.”
We discussed our 2016 “Hopes, Dreams and Desires” on cards. Then the residents arranged their comment cards to complete the song “It’s a New Year After All.” Then sound shape drums were introduced during Then the residents drew pictures on the sound shape drums of their hopes, dreams and desires for 2016. Responses included “Peace, Love, health, happiness, and family.”
Lastly slowly swayed to the song “Sentimental Journey” for gross motor movement, reflecting on our personal journeys. Happy New Year … I’m so grateful for all of the wonderful health care professionals, volunteers, family and friends who support my mission to SERVE through MUSIC to enrich the quality of lives of older adults.
