Rhythmic and Reflective Patriotic

Had a blast sharing a “Rhythmic and Reflective Patriotic” session with the Alzheimer’s Association – Southeastern Virginia Chapter Peers and Partners Early Stage Alzheimer’s Group. we were honored to have all veterans and spouses in the group today.

We started with a guided deep breathing activity to an instrumental “God Bless America” by Jim Brickman. Then red, white and blue congo shakers were distributed… we then “took and passed” to our partners utilizing the same skills needed in life (teamwork, coordination, letting go, trust.”

The sound shape drums were distributed … the peers and partners tapped their name in rhythm and a name of someone they would like to pay tribute to on Memorial Day. Next the participants drew a picture of freedom on their drum. We then sang several Patriotic Songs including “Dixie, When Johnnie Comes Marching Home, America the Beautiful, God Bless America and My Country Tis of Thee.”

We closed by taking a moment of silence to honor our service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country. Reflective comments included: “wonderful, so awesome, content, uplifted, hopeful and fun.” Thank you Sally and Tracee for facilitating and assisting me during this Memorable and Enjoyable Session! ‪#‎luvservingwithmusic Music For Wellness
