Everything is Beautiful

“Everything is Beautiful” for the Senior Champions of the Innovative Senior Champions Program. After a couple of days of solid rain, the Senior Champions from New Zion Baptist Church enjoyed a stimulating and energizing “Beauty” Theme music therapy sessions.

Everything is Beautiful

Our session began with a relaxing wellness and deep breathing exercise to an instrumental “September” Song. We were greeted with Apple Shakers and shook to the tune “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” by incorporating each …person’s name.

Then the beautiful and colorful Octaband was introduced for each senior champion to participate in large gross motor movement, group cohesion and teamwork, self-expression, spontaneity, and awareness of others. We compared the bright colors to the clothes everyone was wearing on this beautiful day.

Then word cards distributed and the senior champions solved a lyric puzzle completing the song “Everything is Beautiful ” with their words. We then discussed what items are beautiful; used their comments to write our own song. Then we drew a picture of something beautiful on the sound shape drums. Responses and pictures included: “church, flowers, fellowship, this group, sun, and weather.

We transitioned into singing and playing “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” on the Suzuki tone chimes and closed the activity by singing several verses. Lastly, the Senior Champions relaxed with a deep breathing activity to an instrumental “September” song on the Piano. Reflective comments included: “Relaxed, calm, wonderful, fantastic, beautiful, FUN, and fabulous!”

I can say, as not only the Program Director but also a Board member, that I am impressed with how well you grasped the workings of our program with just your short exposure to this wonderful service to our veterans.” Horses-Helping-Heros
